Delicious Phyllo Baklava Recipe
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 lb phyllo pastry
2 cups chopped walnuts, almonds or pistachios
2 tbsp sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup clear honey
1/2 cup water
2 tbsp lemon juice
Preheat oven to 425 degrees
Melt the butter in a small saucepan and brush a little over the bottom and side of a 10 x 8 inch roasting pan.
Layer half the pastry sheets in the pan, brushing liberally with butter between each sheet, and folding in the edges so that the sheets fit the pan.
keep rest of the pastry covered to prevent it drying out. Mix together the chopped nuts, sugar and cinnamon and spread over pastry layers, brushing each with butter. Brush the top layer well with any remaining butter.
Cut through the top two layers of pastry with a sharp knife to divide into two lengthwise and four widthwise, then cut each square half diagonally to make triangles. Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for a further 25-30 minutes till well risen and golden.
Meanwhile, make the syrup. Melt the honey in the water and add to the lemon juice. Allow to cool
Remove baklava from oven pour cold syrup over and leave to cool in pan. Cut along the marked lines to serve.
